FRENEMY

 

 Angel was a student in Zoe High School, Lagos. She was a shy and reserved girl. Though, there are reasons for her being reserved and shy, everybody including her friends considered her a snob.
   Angel came from a dysfunctional home. Her parents got divorced when she was 10 years old. Before they got divorced, her parents argued a lot and at the end of each argument, her father always ended up beating her mother. This led to her having emotional break-down at a tender age. In addition, her parents don’t have time for her, only during weekends. And most times, they spend it on arguing with each other. The air of cheerfulness and happiness was alien in their house. The marriage affair of her parents was like the cat and dog affair. After her parents’ divorce, Angel began to live with her mother. Her mother gave her needed attention and attended to her needs but her mother brought different kind of men to the house and her mother developed the habit drinking and smoking. Her mother told her not to trust anybody. With these words in her mind, she was not able to make friends.
   When she was in JSS 3, some girls joined her class. The girls were friendly so, they quickly became everybody friend. The girls whose names are Wonderful, Veronica and Emmanuelle noticed how shy she was. So, they started talking to her with the aim of bringing her out of her hole. They (the girls), suddenly realized how talented she was. Angel was good in almost everything. Soon, Angel and the girls became best of friends. They destroyed the wall of shyness around her and soon, she became the center of attraction in the class and school. Unfortunately for her, her so called friends were already jealous of her. Jealously led to envy and envy led to hatred. They pretended around Angel but deep down, they wanted her downfall.
  When they were in SSS 3, Angel’s friends found an opportunity to bring about her downfall. They arranged with one of their male classmates to rape Angel. With payment from the girls, he raped her. Earlier that day, Veronica came to Angel to borrow money. Without knowing, Angel was lending her money that led to the incident. After the incident, Angel was depressed. Her friends added to her wound by posting on the school website that she was sleeping with guys around the school. Angel was so shocked to see the news that she fainted and hit her head on a stone. This fall made her go into coma. When her friends realized the gravity of their action, it was too late. Angel was in coma for 10 years. After she came out of it, it was too late to continue school. Instead, she married and worked as a cleaner. Her mother had died from worry before she came out of the coma.
